Mortgage Renewals & Transfers

Here’s the mistake most homeowners make: their bank sends a renewal letter, they sign it, and they overpay for years. Your renewal is the easiest time to save money — and you don’t even have to stay with the same lender.

Why not just sign the renewal letter?

Banks count on you signing without shopping. The renewal rate they offer is rarely their best rate. At renewal you can transfer to a different lender for a better rate and terms — often at little or no cost, because a straight switch (no new money) is usually inexpensive to arrange.

How I help at renewal

When to start

Reach out 4–6 months before your renewal date. Many lenders let you lock a rate in advance, so you’re protected if rates rise — and free to take a better one if they fall.
